I came to Hochschule Mannheim as an 18 year old boy, without clearly defined goals in life, and came out an engineer that knows what he wants from this life.

Hochschule Mannheim was the place that gave me the opportunity to test my intellectual abilities and build up a serious work ethic. During the studies it was proven to me time and time again that ANYONE can achieve ANYTHING, if he is willing to do what is necessary for an extended period of time without straying away from his plan. I am very grateful to the assembly of professors that I have had the honour to learn under. They were a perfect example of exactness, professionalism and love for teaching. Two of the professors that deeply impacted my worldview and attitude towards engineering were Prof. Effler and Prof. Kittel. They supported me with sincere tips and helpful ideas not only in the scope of the subjects they taught, but also in the scope of choosing a long term direction for life.

As an international student, since the first semester I was amazed by how fair and clean the German university system is. Everyone is treated without a trace of prejudice or discrimination. All throughout the studies, we were supported and helped by the staff and the professors. This help proved crucial in integrating into the German society and getting to know this new and fascinating country.

The knowledge and experience gathered at Hochschule Mannheim proved very relevant for today's industry standards. Thus, I was able to land intern positions and full-time jobs at two of Germany's most respected corporations, Continental AG and Siemens AG. At the moment, I am using the thinking frameworks and topics learned at Hochschule Mannheim daily while working. I am very happy that Hochschule Mannheim was the place where I had the honour to study. I sincerely recommend Hochschule Mannheim to everyone who is interested in finding out what he is capable of.

>>Theoretical and laboratory knowledge and study content of control technology from my studies at Hochschule Mannheim are particularly helpful for my work. <<

Philip Kanjirathingal Kurian, India
Alumni of BSc Automation Technology (2020)

I graduated in Automation Technology in October 2019. Since October 2020, I have been working as a virtual commissioning engineer at GROB-WERKE GmbH & Co. KG in Mindelheim. This involves commissioning the complete control technology of plants with the PLC software Siemens TIA Portal and with virtual models of plant machines.

The company was founded in Munich in 1926. As a global family business, it is active in the development and manufacturing of plants and machine tools. The company's product portfolio includes automation solutions, electric mobility, industrial electric motors, additive manufacturing and universal machines for optimal machining. It offers solutions for various industries such as automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering, tool and die making, medical technology, power engineering and automation.

Here, theoretical and laboratory knowledge and study content of control technology from my studies at Hochschule Mannheim are particularly helpful for my work.

As an international student studying B.Sc. Automation Technology at Hochschule Mannheim, I was fortunate to have great mentors and professors who provided a strong foundation in my field. The university's many labs allowed me to gain practical experience and enrich my knowledge of automation technology.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my time at Hochschule Mannheim was the opportunity to work with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds. This exposed me to new perspectives and ways of thinking, and helped me to develop a more global mindset.

Now, as a Software Engineer Automation System at Siemens AG, I am able to apply the skills and knowledge I gained at Hochschule Mannheim to my work on projects and services worldwide. I am involved in helping clients bring their operations closer to Industry 4.0, and I am always looking for new and innovative ways to increase efficiency and reduce downtime in plants. This requires a high level of collaboration, as well as strong technical skills and a deep understanding of automation technology.

Overall, my time at Hochschule Mannheim was a valuable and enriching experience. The university provided me with a strong foundation in automation technology, and the diverse environment allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.

I am grateful for the education and opportunities that Hochschule Mannheim provided, and I am proud to be an alumni.

>>The focus of Hochschule Mannheim lies in practical learning. As an engineer, I can tell with certainty that this makes a good impact in the work environment. <<

Alumni of BSc Automation Technology (2021)

The opportunity to study in Germany and especially at Hochschule Mannheim had a tremendous effect in my professional career. I am happy now that I decided to study there.

The focus of Hochschule Mannheim lies in practical learning. As an engineer, I can tell with certainty that this makes a good impact in the work environment. From the wide range of Labs and industrial Models provided at the Hochschule I developed the key skills to facilitate problem-solving in the real life.

After years of studies, I am more than proud to work in a big company as an engineer for automation solutions, Endress + Hauser Conducta GmbH & Co. KG.I help modify and automate devices for analysis of liquids in production industry. And the best part is that I am using all that gained knowledge at the Hochschule flat out.

But student life is not only about studying. Mannheim provides an international environment, and for me, as a foreigner, I created strong bonds with people around the world. We still meet time-to-time to grab a drink and keep that nostalgic spirit alive.

The time at Hochschule Mannheim was brilliant. Simply put, I am very thankful for all the memories.

>>Hochschule Mannheim ensures the perfect combination of education, fun, friends, and intercultural exchange.<<

Hochschule Mannheim - University of Applied Sciences certainly prepares students for the professional world. Likewise, I acquired academic and non-academic knowledge, which is useful in my everyday life. Learning was interesting and fun with a unique opportunity for international students to take German courses and focus on their chosen study program at the same time.  Furthermore, research projects with professors, a mandatory internship and the choice to do the thesis in a company allowed me as a student to explore the job market and gain work experience along with crucial skills. The assistance of highly qualified professors and supervisors in the workplace helped me greatly in my career advancement.

Right after graduating from the bachelor’s program in Power Engineering and Renewable Energies, I started working as a Project Engineer at Martin Technology GmbH in Munich, also a company in the automotive industry. In general, my job comprises software development and testing of vehicles and their subsystems.

Nevertheless, student life is not only about intellectual performance. I had the best time exploring Mannheim as well as other cities and partying with friends. While it tends to be difficult to adapt to a new place, the members of the faculty and the international office help the students for example, with accommodation, settling down, getting to know the campus, and so on. Through small trips and events organized to welcome new students, I could already make acquaintance with the people at the university during my first days in Mannheim. Moreover, as a foreign student, I could integrate with the German culture and improve my German by interacting with the German natives. Simultaneously, I met students from various countries and experienced new cultures thanks to the international program.

To sum up, Hochschule Mannheim ensures the perfect combination of education, fun, friends, and intercultural exchange.
