You can apply with Studierendenwerk Mannheim already before having received admission for EEB yet.

Early housing application will increase your chances in getting a place in student accommodation with Studierendenwerk Mannheim.

Visa Application

The procedure for applying for a  study visa for Germany may vary slightly from country to country. We strongly recommend checking with the German embassy or consulate in your country for up-to-date details relevant to your specific case.

Plan these steps towards your study visa for Germany:

  1. Find the German Embassy/Consulate responsible for your student visa application.
  2. Visit the website of the Embassy/Consulate, go to "National Visa"/"Long Term Visa" section, click on the "student visa" category and familiarise yourself with all of the requirements
  3. Book a visa appointment
  4. Submit the required documents. On your appointment day, take all of the documents to the embassy/consulate and submit them
  5. Pay the visa fee
  6. Go through the interview process
  7. Wait for the response (approval or rejection)

The standard processing time for a German study visa is 2-3 months. In some countries, even booking a visa appointment can take months. Do not wait until you receive your admission letter.
Try to book an appointment at the embassy/consulate directly after you apply for the study programme. Most embassies require upload of the admission letter only one week before the actual visa appointment. With some embassies you are asked to indicate the university name during visa registration already. But this can be changed later on when uploading the admission letter.
We recommend to register with the embassy already in March/April for a visa appointment in June.

Application deadline  Your complete application must be uploaded by 31 July. We recommend to submit the application as soon as possible to ease visa and housing procedures. For international students this should not be later than 15 May.

Winter semester only Our international programme starts beginning of September with a three-week welcome and culture programme in parallel to intensive German training.

English language skills needed  Proof of sufficient English language skills is one of the admission prerequisites (TOEFL minimum 88 (IBT); IELTS minimum 6.5; OTE minimum 130).

German language skills German language skills are not mandatory for admission. We recommend German level A2 for a good start in Germany.

Age We highly recommend that applicants are at least 18 years old when they start their studies. Everyday business, such as opening a bank account or renting a room, is very difficult for underage people.

You cannot submit an application unless it is complete  Please note that due to university admission regulations we cannot consider an application unless it is complete. Please contact Silke Förstermann (apply.eeb@elektrotechnik.th-mannheim.de) if you are uncertain about your document. We are unable to accept predicted grades. Applicants from an EU country may apply with the certificate of the winter semester of the 12th class. We highly recommend that applicants are at least 18 years old when they start their studies. Everyday business, such as opening a bank account or renting a room, is very difficult for underage people.

Multitude of applications each year  Due to the multitude of applications we receive each year, and as the number of students to be admitted is restricted, applicants should have a very good school-leaving certificate or university transcript. Our admissions committee focuses on your grades in Maths and Physics. You may apply for first semester only, no access to higher semesters can be given.

»You don´t have to be scared of Maths if you want to study Electrical Engineering, but there needs to be a good base in this subject to be able to work in later semesters.«
