In October 2021, the decision was made that the Federal Horticultural Show, BUGA for short in German, would come to Mannheim in 2023. The decision in favour of a city or region always means at the same time:

High costs for the host city, but on the other hand a lot of public attention for the region and topics that it focuses on. Sustainability is very important to the city of Mannheim. The players are also encouraged to act as sustainably as possible in order to show that events of this magnitude can be held over such a long period of time (April-October 2023) in an environmentally friendly manner.

The BUGA offers a stage for all players in the Mannheim city area, but also from the surrounding region. Businesses will be able to present themselves as well as associations and educational institutions in the city. There will be various events in the action pavilions to make the programme as attractive as possible for visitors.

There will be four large stages at BUGA 23, spread over the Spinelli grounds and Luisenpark: the main stage, the open-air stage in the Käfertal park bowl, the lake stage and the stage on the leisure meadow. In addition, there are many other places that will be the venue for the more than 5,000 events.

THE CAMPUS EDUCATION PROGRAMME

A place of learning and experience for one summer: the Federal Horticultural Show Mannheim offers an extraordinary educational programme for all age groups with the BUGA 23: Campus. Environment, energy, climate and food are the four themes that are reflected as leitmotifs in the Campus and which can be experienced and brought to life here in a variety of ways.

Numerous workshops, guided tours and hands-on activities invite you to try things out with fun and curiosity and to take away practical impulses for sustainable action in everyday life. The Campus is also a place for exchange and encounter, to question attitudes and to find out how you can actively shape the future yourself.

The Campus programme includes around 2,000 attractive and interdisciplinary formats and events over 178 days. They were developed in cooperation with regional, institutional and independent players.

BUGA 23 is also a place for students that provides important impulses, especially in this day and age.

Hochschule Mannheim – University of Applied Sciences will also be represented with a stand.
